CLARENDON PRIMARY SCHOOL - FOUNDATION PHASE

Introduction to formal schooling

Admission to Clarendon Primary School is highly sought after. This is due to the  holistic and quality education provided by our dedicated and committed staff. The Foundation Phase staff strive to encompass our motto ‘To serve with love’ in order to facilitate a smooth and successful transition from pre-primary to the formal school setting.

Our curriculum is aligned with the Department of Education’s Curriculum and Policy Statement (CAPS) however we extend our learners by offering additional opportunities in Language, Sport and Technology, thereby equipping them with a solid foundation in preparation for the Intermediate and senior phases.

Holistic education

Our learners are introduced to Afrikaans and isiZulu from Grade 1, allowing them to make an informed subject choice when they exit the Foundation Phase. Our academic program also includes Information Technology (IT) preparing our learners for the technological additions to the national curriculum. This is further enhanced by the daily interactive teaching and learning that is facilitated by Interactive Whiteboards in all classes.

Foundation Phase learners are included in the Art and Culture program and participate in Art and culture evenings and school concerts where they are able to showcase their talents in Art, dance, drama and music.

The Foundation Phase staff pride themselves on creating a secure environment that is conducive to learning. We strive to inculcate good values and nurture a spirit of family togetherness at our school.

Clarendon Primary School - Intermediate & Senior Phase

World readiness/ High School Preparation

Our CPS learners receive an extraordinary preparation for their high school years. There is focused attention in developing skills and knowledge based on our ‘To Serve with Love’ motto coupled with our core principles of Commitment, Courtesy, Consideration and Control.

Our Intermediate & Senior Phase learners are fully engaged with a very demanding, yet interactive academic program supported by a range of modern technologies and a caring teaching and support staff ready to assist at every turn of this self-discovery journey.

Clarendon Primary School learners also engage in a number of sport and extramural activities in which they grow in individual talents as well as expanding in their group/ community networks in which they position themselves for future opportunities.

The Arts, Drama and Culture

The Senior Phase provides a wide variety of non-academic enterprising opportunities which allow learners a diverse platform of expression. There is a greater responsibility on learner participation by learners in music, dance, drama, culture. Through these disciplines of art, drama, music and culture; learners are able to showcase their artistic expression publicly using platforms such as Arts Evening, School Plays, Choral Performances at assemblies and Prize Givings, etc.

The maturity and growth of learners takes on a collective effort between our dedicated staff and learners themselves with remote guidance from guardians and parents.

The Leadership Programme

Learners have always been encouraged to play an active role in ensuring that our school resources are well maintained for the benefit of the whole school. In the Intermediate & Senior Phase, boys and girls take on a more prominent leadership role inside and outside the class as class monitors, class assistants, flag officers, fundraisers and mentors or “buddies” to others in lower grades.  Their confidence and commitment when undertaking these tasks has always been transformational and remarkable to observe.

Life – Beyond School Premises

The Intermediate & Senior Phase introduces learners to life beyond school boundaries; marked by trips and excursions outside the classroom which allow them to create memorable moments and lifetime connections. The variety of outdoor adventure learners participate in on day as well as overnight trips whereby they develop a love for nature and learn first-hand about group dynamics through capacity building activities.
